The twenty-first century has brought the rapid development of international tourism, driven by the momentum of globalization, convenient transportation, Internet-based economic models and the effects of social media. So, foreign travel is an increasingly popular mode of tourism.

The boom in outbound travel among the people of China has, in recent years, become an important contributor to the progress of international tourism. Moreover, as the Chinese travel overseas, China embraces tourists from all over the world. As one of the few countries with an ancient civilization, China features gorgeous landscapes, time-honored historical sites and distinctive places of cultural interest. Inbound tourism plays a significant role in promoting cultural and economic exchanges between China and other countries, communicating traditional Chinese culture to new friends overseas and shaping the country's image around the globe.

Zhongshan is a landmark in Nanjing, and it has witnessed the vicissitudes of this capital city. There are historical sites that date from the ancient dynasties (Six Dynasties, Ming Dynasty and the Republic of China), and some are preserved within Zhongshan Mountain National Park. These sites embody the elements of Buddhism, landscape and architecture. To internationally publicize these scenic spots, Zhongshan Mountain National Park has invited WordTech International to help build a multilingual website and localization program.

To prepare for the multilingual website, the Localization Department of WordTech International, in collaboration with a number of postgraduates, conducted a survey of target markets. This was done with respect to the different languages, varied travel preferences and consumption habits represented by those countries. We identified the aspects of Zhongshan that would interest them and what they'd like to see on the website, and accordingly we translated the respective pages into English, German, French, Japanese, Korean and Russian.

To cater to the target markets, WordTech International applied the local cultural elements in its page designs, including the colors, contents, typesetting and layout. For example, we used diamond-shaped elements on the Russian page. For the Japanese version, we brought Sakura Garden in Ming Tomb and Linggu Temple into the foreground, and we recommended Yuhua tea. With individualized design, we sought to convey our message in such a way that it would resonate with the audience.

WordTech International specializes in more than tourism alone. We also provide customized localization services for law, finance, IT, multimedia production and other fields.
